Frequently Asked
Common questions.
Is this a real, legitimate eye exam?
Yes. Every exam is conducted by a state-licensed optometrist using FDA-cleared imaging equipment. Your doctor reviews all of your imaging and consults with you live before issuing your prescription. The standard of care is identical to a traditional in-office exam — what's different is the convenience and the technology.
Will the doctor actually see me?
Yes. After our technician completes your imaging, your SKEYE optometrist joins you over a secure HD video link right in the exam room. You'll have a real conversation about your eye health, ask any questions, and discuss findings — exactly like you would in a typical office visit. Your doctor has full access to your imaging while you talk.
Does insurance cover this?
At our Melrose location, we accept VSP, EyeMed, UHC Vision, Cigna, and most major vision insurance plans. We'll verify your benefits when you arrive. FSA and HSA cards are also accepted everywhere. If you don't have vision insurance, our out-of-pocket pricing is competitive and transparent — no surprise bills.
How long does it take?
A Comprehensive Eye Exam takes about 30 minutes — including imaging, doctor consultation, and prescription issuance. A Contact Lens Fitting is shorter, around 15 minutes if you have a current prescription. Most patients are in and out faster than a traditional office visit because there's no waiting room delay.
Can I get my prescription right away?
Yes — your prescription is issued the same day, before you leave. You can use it to purchase glasses or contacts anywhere you like, or shop on-site at the retail partner that hosts the SKEYE location.
What if I need follow-up care or treatment?
If your doctor identifies something requiring further evaluation — like a retinal finding, pressure concern, or advanced dry eye — SKEYE will coordinate a referral or in-person follow-up at our flagship SKEYE Melrose location, where we offer the full menu of clinical services including IPL/RF dry eye treatment, aesthetic care, and wellness.
What technology do you use?
We use cutting-edge digital imaging at every visit — digital fundus photography for retinal screening, anterior segment imaging for the cornea and lens, meibography for dry eye diagnosis, and precision-calibrated refraction technology for accurate prescriptions. All equipment is medical-grade and FDA-cleared. Video consultations use end-to-end encrypted HIPAA-compliant telehealth software.
